Membership Information

Four Town is always accepting applications from those who want to join our organization, regardless of your level of training or experience. If you don't want to be a medical provider or driver, you can help our Four Town in other ways, to include: vehicle maintenance, data entry, website design/upkeep, and fundraising.

An active member (excluding Junior Corps members) must be a minimum of 18 years old, 21 if interested in being a driver. Interested parties will compete an application and submit it to the Director of Operations for review and reference checks. After the review, the candidate will be interviewed by the Director of Operations, a Chief, and a member of the Human Resources committee. The Director of Operations will present recommended candidates to the Board of Directors for approval of membership.

One point shall be awarded for each hour spent benefitting the organization. This may include, but not limited to: attending meetings, fundraising, vehicle maintenance, building maintenance, data entry, on-call shifts, and actual calls. Personnel who respond to back-up (second ambulance) calls receive double points. An active member must maintain a minimum of 120 points per year. The organization requests that active members who respond to ambulance calls to contribute a minimum of 24 on-call hours per month. Only active members may run for office, vote for squad officers, and attend the annual recognition dinner.

No experience is necessary to join Four Town. Once a member, you may advance your training (age permitting) by taking a Certified First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician course, paid for by Four Town. In addition, we will provide CPR/AED training to all members.

Description of positions

Junior Corps/Attendants

Junior Corps members and attendants are members who assist the EMT/Paramedic with the daily duties in and out of the ambulance. In addition, they are given medical training, have regular meetings, and are vital to the success of various fundraisers and community events. Driver:

Drivers are responsible for transporting Emergency Medical Technicians/Paramedics and patients from the scene to a medical facility. They are responsible for handling equipment and assisting with patient care. Drivers have to complete medic assistant training, CPR training, and have a clean driving record at a minimum.

EMT:

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) are responsible for providing appropriate patient care Satisfactory completion of a NYS-approved EMT course is required as is on-the-job demonstration of skills. Updates and skill refreshers are required. The NY State EMT class requires a candidate to be at least 18 years old at the time of the final exam.

Paramedic:

Paramedics are responsible for providing advanced life support (ALS) care, emergency on-scene treatment, crisis intervention, and life-saving stabilization to include advanced airway management, intravenous therapy, pharmacological intervention, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, and cardiac pacing. Satisfactory completion of a NYS-approved Paramedic course is required in addition to on-the-job demonstration of skills and ongoing continuing education.

Life Members:

Life members have completed a minimum of ten years of active service and possess all of the rights and priviledges of active members with the exception of voting privledges. A life member who meets the annual points requirement will have voting priviledges.

Charter Members:

Existing charter members will have the rights and priviledges of Life Members.
